Maintenance Videos — DIY for New Homes

DIY video2

Like a broken record, you’ve told customers many routine maintenances are a homeowner’s responsibility. Where does that get you? Instead of leaving them with nothing, why not provide your customers with something helpful?

Try: Do-it-yourself videos.

I’ve done this and it was always successful; call-backs for routine maintenance items virtually stopped!

Here’s how to get started:

Make a list of the top 10 maintenance issues you have to “encourage” homeowners to do themselves. Then make a short 4-6 minute video showing:

  • What their limited warranty says regarding the issue
  • Reason(s) to perform the maintenance
  • Level of difficulty
  • Tools and supplies needed
  • Step-by-step instructions showing how to perform the maintenance.

scan0021Making the videos isn’t too complicated if you’ve got one or two creative people on your staff. The key is making the video useful. After you make the videos you need to decide how you are going to get them to your customers.

You can post them on your warranty web portal, or send the owners a DVD or USB drive with the helpful information.
